Faber Members presents The Crime Novel

Join us as we journey into the dark heart of the crime novel with three of the genre’s most exciting writers.

Ahead of their appearances at the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival, US novelists Alafair Burke(The Ex) and Kristen Lepionka (The Last Place You Look) will join British author Fiona Cummins (Rattle) at Faber’s Bloomsbury House to dissect the twists and turns behind a perfect crime novel.

Alafair Burke’s books include the standalone thrillers Long Gone and If You Were Here – an Amazon Best Mystery Novel of 2013 – and her acclaimed series starring NYPD Detective Ellie Hatcher, the most recent of which, Never Tell, was a Kindle bestseller. A former Deputy District Attorney in Portland, Oregon, Alafair is now a Professor of Law at Hofstra Law School, where she teaches criminal law and procedure.

‘I absolutely love Alafair Burke – she’s one of my favourite authors.’ – Karin Slaughter

Kristen Lepionka grew up mostly in a public library and could often be found in the adult mystery section well before she was out of middle school. Her writing has been selected for Shotgun Honey, McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, Grift, and Black Elephant. She lives in Columbus, Ohio, with her partner and two cats.

‘Seriously this is a must read. I loved it.’ – Martina Cole on The Last Place You Look

Fiona Cummins is an award-winning former Daily Mirror Showbiz journalist and a graduate of the Faber Academy Writing A Novel course. Fiona sold her house and gave up her job to fulfil her ambition to become an author. A month before her two year deadline, Fiona found herself with a publishing deal with film rights optioned.

‘It’s a rare debut that has this much polish. Harrowing and horrifying, head and shoulders above the competition.’ – Val McDermid on Rattle
